I’m a 43 year old teacher. When the stressful day ends, I really look forward to training. When you first walk in, the place seems intimidating, especially with all the fighters’ pictures. Much to my surprise the fighters who train there are a very unique breed in that they don’t hang their egos on the people they train with, but instead pride themselves on the knowledge they share. I couldn’t think of any other place for a man my age to train and still be able to make it to work the next day.

Ever since I came to TxPh I’ve noticed a change in me that has spread through out my life. In the gym & outside. I’ve reached all the goals I set out for myself, plus some. All with the help of everyone at TxPh. One of the most positive gyms I have ever had the pleasure of training at. Will all the classes helping me reach my grappling goals, MMA goal, & even my weight loss goals……… I can’t really imagine training anywhere else

“I’ve lost over 60 pounds since coming to Texas Powerhouse. Not only do I train hard with great people, I also learn a lot from skilled instructors every time I go. Heading to the MMA gym has quickly become my favorite part of the day, and I feel great after having a fun time training.”

I have been training at TX Powerhouse a little over a year and the training has increased my endurance, strength, attention to detail, and overall confidence. Coming from a mentally demanding corporate environment, TX Powerhouse has been great for relieving stress as well.

One of the first lessons I gleaned from Jamie Miller is the power of principles over techniques.

A technique applies to a specific situation within a small window of time. However a correct principle permeates throughout your game and creates opportunities in and of itself. Technique minus principle is flawed. The continued execution of any given technique depends on the principles which surround it. As a martial artist one must build a series of principles that best compliments their person. If martial arts is the truest expression of self then one must humbly submit to the limitations placed upon them by the creator. Only after a clear analysis may one begin building and learning to express themselves. Lack of clarity is like building a foundation on sand. Build upon solid principles and a clear understanding of your short comings and strengths.

Strengths are reinforced by principles as well. Lack of movement fundamentals has plagued many gifted martial artists. This is the flaw of their teacher. Without proper movement principles a student should not be promoted. Throwing techniques without principles is an American flaw. Principles require discipline and time for consistent application. A technique can be applied immediately by an athletic student, but will not grant continued success against a principled opponent. Surround yourself with principles like a coat of armor and your techniques will have another layer of technical depth.

Challenging and Fun! At 42 years old, and just retired from the Marine Corps,  I walked into Texas Power MMA looking for a challenge and I found that and more. Now at 47 years old I feel like I have grown as a person and an athlete because of my consistent training with Jamie Miller, owner and black belt for Texas Powerhouse MMA. Jamie and his team of instructors  are talented athletes and skilled teachers. I have found Texas Powerhouse MMA to be a fun and safe place to train.

I am a former cross country runner, baseball and football player. When I started coming to the gym I as at 220 lbs and out of shape. Now 7 months later I am at 190lbs well trained and ready to fight and I feel better than I’ve ever felt before. I am stronger, faster and I have more endurance than I’ve ever had. Not only do I feel better physically but also mentally. Training here has made me think of all aspects of life in a different way, giving me a discipline to make a better decisions, be a better person, better husband, and better father.
